Snow Adventure

It was snowy here today so of course I decided to go for a run on my CBF250 - what could possibly go wrong?

Mearns Kirk makes for a nice winter scene

The main roads were ok but this back road was just too slippery

Eaglesham

The Swan is a favourite pub of ours
The Whitelee wind farm. This was far enough, it was getting really cold.

On the Eaglesham Moor road

This is where things started to go wrong. The sky turned black followed by hail then snow.

I'm starting to think that this wasn't a good idea

"You've nae chance" was the gritter driver's opinion of my situation. Like me he didn't want to drive down this hill.
Luckily he was wrong. I'm home safe & sound (just)

  2. Wow, good on ya. I too am glad you made it home safe. Nice snowy selfie too. You should get a prize for that one.

To venture out in the snow...... on two wheels......

Do they use salt or gravel on the roads? No salt here just copious amounts of gravel to make traction tenuous when the snow melts.

  3. It was a bit of fun but getting caught in the snow shower was a bit scary. I used to commute all year round by bike so I'm used to a bit of ice & snow. In the UK we spread a course salt on the roads. This melts the ice & snow down to about -10C which is as cold as it usually gets. But a heavy shower will lie for a while until the salt works. It's more effective than gravel and doesn't clog up the drains. The downside is that it's corrosive so I hosed the bike down when I got home.

    1. Ahhh, thanks for the answer. A lot of States use salt, Oregon just doesn't as they believe it is more environmentally friendly not to, but then we get gravel and other de-icers on the roads.

    1. This is the bike's original silencer. I got a tatty silencer from a breaker a while back, painted it black and usually fit it for winter to save this one. Details here
