Bench Drill Modifications

A few years ago my neighbour's son said to me "Stuart, could you use this?" "This" turned out to be a bench drill. He'd been at the local coup (rubbish dump) and found it discarded. It has proved to be very useful over the years on many projects.

Recently I did a modification to make drilling easier. The problem was holding pieces while drilling. I bought a cheap vice from Machine Mart. I then attached the vice to a plate with rails on both sides to allow the vice to slide back & forwards and side to side on the table.

The plate can also be attched to the drill base for larger objects.

The chuck wasn't that great so I replaced it with a keyless one. This has much less tendency to slip because it's self tightening.
